The North Bros. Catalog from 1912 describes this drill
as follows:
Frame is malleable iron, with black finish. Instead of ball
bearing the truston spindle is taken by a hardened steel
bearing in lower and of frame, and so arranged that any wear
can be readily taken up. Spindle is of steel. Gears with cut
teeth, large gear, 3 in., small gear, 7/8 in diameter. The
crank is 2-3/4 in. long.
The reversible gearing mechanism has four separate
ratcheting settings for right-hand, left-hand, dual and
fixed settings.
Polished hardwood handle, 4 in. long, 1-1/2 in. diameter.
Can be detached from frame by milled nut to use interior of
handle as a magazine for drills.
Chuck body is of steel polished and nickel plated. 1-3/8 in.
long, 1 in. diameter. The three jaws are of tool steel.
Chuck holds round shanks only up to 3/16 in. diameter.
