  Millers Falls Hand Drill No. 5 - 1912 edition.  Cocobolo handle.  

From Millers Falls catalog:

 

Frame made of malleable iron.  Drive gear with extra wide rim.  Two pinions, with drive pinions supported by ball thrust bearing at the end of the spindle.  Three-jaw, spring-less chuck adjustable 0 to 3/16 inch.  Black enameled frame, drive gear painted red; bright parts nickel plated. 

 

Main handle with a cap and hollow space for bits storage made of Cocobolo.  Crank Handle made in Cocobolo.  Tropical hardwood, stained with red mahogany for side handle.  It is in the shape of mushroom and it is detachable.  Length is 12 7/8 inch.

Restored: 

Cleaned, striped, frame and main gear re-painted - 4 layers. Paint color is matched to the original as close as possible. Wood on all handles cleaned. Cocobolo sanded and waxed - 3 layers. Final coat is Carnauba wax. Excellent appearance and function! Hardwood of the side handle sanded and stained with red mahogany. Top coat – 4 layers of lacquer. Greased, oiled, tuned and checked. Great addition to your toolbox or collection. Lovely Tool!
