Millers Falls/Goodell-Pratt catalog No 42:

After the merger with Millers Falls Co., Goodell-Pratt hand drill No. 5.5 received some overhaul but was still sold with Goodell-Pratt markings and under original numbering convention.  The catalog No. 42, which offered goods made by Millers Falls Co. and former Goodell-Pratt Co. described this drill as follows:

Known the world over for its smooth operation, years of serviceability and fine finish.  Two speeds with ratios of 3.8 to 1 and 1.3 to 1, changed by turning the shift knob.  Ball bearing spindle.  Steel pinions.

Black enameled malleable iron frame.  Large gear red enameled.  Hollow tropical hardwood end handle with screw cap.  Side and crank handles mahogany finished hardwood.  All exposed metal parts nicely polished, nickeled and buffed.

Very smooth and well working drill.

Small repair on the edge of the cap - see photo below.  Several small nicks on the chuck.

Overall - excellent condition, smooth work and very attractive look.

 

International buyers will receive separate invoice with S&H cost after purchase is complete.

 

Fully restored: 

Main frame and gear fully stripped, re-painted and baked. Main and Crank handles sanded and polished.  Treated with BLO and 3 layers of wax.  Fourth layer is Carnauba wax. Side handle sanded, treated with Red Mahogany and lacquer. Chuck disassembled, cleaned inside and out. All inside surfaces polished, including jaws – for smooth operation.  All gear tight and smooth.
