Millers Falls Company - Millers Falls and Greenfield, MA

Chucks Produced by Millers Falls Company

The company founders recognized from the beginning the importance of chucks for holding boring bits and augers.  They understood their importance in the future of the company.

Just three years after Levi J. Gunn and Charles H. Amidon begun their partnership, they decided and executed purchase of patent rights to bit brace designed and patented by William H. Barber.

The year was 1864.  The main element of this patent was a chuck and how bits and augers were mounted.

"Millers Falls Chucks bear enviable reputation for accuracy and serviceability.  For these reasons they are in demand wherever chucks are used.

There are number of tools and machines made by other manufacturers which have Millers Falls Chucks as standard equipment.

The jaws which are the vital part of the tool are machined and ground with precision, and grip round shanks tightly and accurately.  They are carefully adjusted into the socket and close by pressure of the spindle.

The springs which control the jaws are situated far down in the base where they cannot possibly be injured by a drill shank.  The springs are an improved type which press the yaws outward against the shell - making it much easier to insert the drill shanks.

The chuck shell is of steel, and is shaped to give a firm grip in tightening.  All styles are handsomely knurled and polished.

They are guaranteed to give satisfaction."
