  Goodell-Pratt Hand Drill No 655 - Overview 1 of 2

In 1926 Goodell-Pratt Co. published a new catalog No. 16. The catalog, as it was custom for the Goodell-Pratt Co., was a pocket-size booklet (3-3/4" X 5-5/8"), packed with 400 pages of tool illustrations and descriptions.

The catalog introduced several new products and among them was a new Hand Drill No. 655.

  • Hand Drill No. 655 - 1926 release

  • Hand Drill No. 655 - 1930 release

  • Hand Drill No. 655A - 1938 release

Available sources suggest that there were four different releases of this drill.

  1. 1926 - first version of the drill was introduced in catalog No. 16
  2. 1930 - second version was described in the catalog No. 17.
  3. 1935 - third version, introduced in Catalog No. 41, after merger of Millers Falls Co. and Goodell-Pratt Co. in 1931. It was a joint catalog of tools produced by Millers Falls Co. and Goodell-Pratt Co.
  4. 1938 - fourth version, introduced in Catalog No. 42. It was a joint catalog of tools produced by Millers Falls Co. and Goodell-Pratt Co.

The following is a description of these drills from respective catalogs.

Goodell-Pratt Hand Drill No. 655 - Catalog No. 41, 1935

This release was a complete departure from original design. Since the merger of Millers Falls Co. and Goodell-Pratt Co. in 1931 various changes to the tools offering were made. Many tools were abandoned and some were modified to bring them closer to Millers Falls Co. designs. The Hand Drill No. 655 was one of these tools.

The catalog described the drill as follows:

Hand Drill No. 655
