Miter Boxes by the Goodell Manufacturing CompanyThe advertising for the miter box began almost
immediately. Starting in November, 1903, The National Builder
published the following advertisement:
In January, 1905 this advertisement
was modified to include a saw.
The advertisement text from the January, 1905, says:
GOODELL MITRE BOX
Made Entirely of STEEL. No More Breaking.
Our Automatic Stops for holding up saw are the simplest,
quickest acting and by far
the most convenient, the saw being released by simply pressing
down on it.

In 1914, The National Builder, a monthly
magazine published a short review of the Goodell Miter Box:
"The Goodell Miter Box
In
the manufacture of their steel mitre box, the Goodell
Manufacturing Co., Greenfield, Mass., have used only
material which will meet with the contractors or mechanics
approval.
The miter box is constructed essentially of
steel, this material being chosen for its strength and
resistance to the blows and knocks which it is apt to get
about the building. The manufacturers advise us that the
repair bills have been so far eliminated that in the last
ten years, $15.00 would pay for all of the replacements.
The few parts which have been replaced are
those which become lost, such as gauges, thumb screws, etc.,
and not from any breakage or wearing out of parts. The frame
of the Goodell mitre box is reinforced with a truss-like
support which makes it absolutely rigid with the smallest
possible weight. This rigidity accounts for the absolute
accuracy with which the various cuts can be made.
It is needless to say here that the Goodell
mitre box contains all of the desirable features to mitre
box construction, such as locking automatically at the
regular or most used angles or at any given point on the
degree scale by a very small device."
The miter boxes were sold by Goodell Mfg. Co. directly as
well as by Goodell-Pratt Co.
After integration of Goodell Mfg. Co. into Goodell-Pratt
operation, the Goodell Miter Boxes remained in production until
Goodell-Pratt Co. was absorbed by Millers Falls Co. in 1931.
